as they came out. Tom had been chosen for an Outstanding Citizenship award by Project LEAD (anti-drug) and the Optimists, but had not
received his plaque, so we delivered it. The building behind Tom is the Museum of Anthropology.
Nora's uncle has season tickets to KU football, but doesn't make it to every game. On those occasions, he tries to find a home for his tickets, so he sent tickets for the Iowa State game on November 1st to Nora. Van came along and went to the game with Nora.
Tom and Van posed for a picture in front of Stephenson Hall.
Tom and I went up the hill to the Museum of Anthropology while Nora and Van went to the game. As we entered the museum, some
band members came along Jayhawk Blvd. on their way to the game. (The Kansas Union is on the left in this photo.)
Tom and I then walked down Jayhawk Boulevard to Snow Hall and went into
Tom's favorite computer lab. The lab was nice, but I was more impressed with the view as we walked
out the back door of Snow. Moving to the right, we saw what is probably the most famous scene at the University of Kansas:
Potter Lake. Panning further right, and peering between the trees, one could
glimpse the crowd at the football game. We then walked in the general direction of the stadium until we got to the campanile (bell tower) and we stopped to watch the end of half-time and the
start of the second half of the game. A few minutes later, the sun broke through the clouds,
enhancing the view of the stadium.
Tom and I then walked back up to Jayhawk Boulevard and we stopped in front of Bailey Hall, home of the School of Education from which I have a degree. Tom posed for a picture which clearly shows
Watson Library behind him. We walked along the Boulevard and stopped in front of Watson Library and took this picture of
Fraser Hall, the highest building on campus. Following the Boulevard until we were near Fraser, I took this picture of
Lippincott Hall (known as Greene Hall back in my day). In the distance, you can see the Museum of Anthropology again. That's at the corner of Jayhawk Blvd. & 14th Street. We then walked to that corner and
looked down the hill. It's one block down that hill to Alumni Place. Halfway down that block, you get a good view of
Stephenson Hall, Tom's home at KU. Stephenson is on
Alumni Place, which just runs one block south into almost a dead-end (although you can go downhill in the alley to get out).
It was starting to get dark on the east side of the hill, so I put away the camera before Nora and Van got back from the game. We then went out for supper and then rode back to Great Bend and Pratt.
