After Audio Winfield went public, Charlie Hall contacted me and asked whether I would swap a 'better' example of the sound of Pike's Pick. I told him to send it to me and I'd think about it. I've thought about it and decided not to swap the files but instead to give you both. Above are the links for the sounds that I recorded. About Pike's Pick … Over the years, I've heard a lot of good picking at this camp just north of Carp Camp. The music tends toward swing and old standards and certainly isn't what you'd think of if you think of Winfield as a bluegrass festival (not that they couldn't do that quite well if they wanted). When I stopped on the Sunday before the stages opened, I was told that I should come back later in the week. I explained that I had lots to do and might not make it back. I did check back a few times, but not when there was music going on. Fortunately, I did have the recorder on during my first visit, so what you'll hear on this sample is more typical of the actual jamming than you'll find at some of the other stops where they were playing something they knew would be recorded and published on the web.
