Scott Prowell, resident multi-instrumentalist with Spontaneous Combustion, “daylights” as “Dr. Prowell”, a Kansas City area chiropractor in private practice since 1984, and “weekends” as Farmer Scotty on his Lenexa Kansas horse farm. He began playing guitar around the age of eleven and added a new instrument every few years, including banjo, mandolin, pedal steel, dobro, fiddle and another stringed instrument so dangerous that it's never been named. He played in a variety of country-rock bands through college before returning to his acoustic music roots. On a tip from the University of Missouri, Kansas City music department, he met Marvin Gruenbaum with whom he played in another bluegrass band before they met the Eilts brothers.

Scott says that playing mostly mandolin and banjo with Spontaneous Combustion is mostly a practical matter, as that's as many instruments he has arms to carry with. Scott has written several instrumental songs performed by Spontaneous Combustion as well as the a cappella gospel tune “Walk in the Light” which appears on their latest CD “Where There's Smoke.”

Some little-known facts about Scott:

  • He's the youngest member of the band.
  • He cannot read music, playing strictly by ear.
  • He is married with four children; two sons and two daughters
  • Speculation has it that a recent fire which leveled a barn on his farm was caused by “hot licks.”
