Allen Macfarlane, born in Scotland, became interested in the mountain dulcimer(AKA fretted or lap dulcimer) on the United States east coast in the early 70's and began performing in 1982. He preserves a traditional sound, modernized somewhat by flat-picking and chordal styles. Allen's Scottish / Irish heritahge combines with this country's traditions ( some contemporary ) in settings such as festivals, living museums, restauraunts ( & not just because he forgot his billfold ), colleges clubs, and private parties. Allen will be teaching at 1999 Sawlog 'N' Strings, as usual. That's one of his priorities. His work "Kindred Spirits" was released in '94 and '95 began 3 years of his "Passage to the New World" being featured in the Kansas Arts Commission's Kansas Touring Program.
