PREFACE
Ellen Louise Hamar Doubek passed away in 1994. A few years before her death,
she took at creative writing course at Pratt Community College (from which she had
graduated many years earlier). As part of this course, she wrote and published the start of an autobiography. Copies of this booklet, entitledChildhood Memories of a Girl Called Ellen Louise, were distributed to a few of her relatives including her daughter, Nora Jean Doubek Shorock of Great Bend, Kansas.
Besides being well-written, this work provides an interesting perspective on Kansas in the 1920's, that of a young girl. It is unfortunate, though, that the subsequent chapters were never written.
