Royal St. John's Regatta, Quidi Vidi Lake

Shortly before noon, we went to Quidi Vidi Lake but with intentions to avoid the large crowd. We did so by going to the east end of the lake (see photo at left). In the afternoon, we went up Signal Hill and got a good view of the crowd (see photo at right). The crowd was estimated at 40 or 50 thousand. Pretty impressive because the population of St. John's is only 99 thousand and the entire province has only 500 thousand! In the evening, we returned to this area and caught the finals of the men's races.
