Trip to St. Pierre

Over fifty years ago, when I (Don) was a boy, I had a stamp collection. I had lots of British stamps and French stamps and Canadian stamps, but it was those small, out-of-the-way places that really captured my imagination and curiosity. Thus, places like Tristan da Cuhna and Pitcairn Island were known to me, as was a place called St. Pierre et Miquelon. When planning a trip to Newfoundland, it seemed like this was the perfect chance to get there, so Nora and I got passports so we could visit this enclave of France — the last of French North America. (200 years earlier, our home in central Kansas was part of French North America.) We enjoyed St. Pierre, probably more than we expected we would and certainly wouldn't mind visiting again.
