Walnut River String Band Cindy Venn I began singing at an early age entertaining my dolls and any of the dogs I could get to sit and listen. Music has always been in my life. Choir was a requirement in my high school and college days. My mom, sister and myself used to sing in the car and mom always had the radio on at home during cleaning day. I was raised on 50’s 60’s and 70’ rock and roll with a little bit of country thrown in for balance. Participating in theatre paid my way through Cowley County Community College. I also met my husband Mike there. I’ve always said I went to school for the social life. Mike is the love of my life and my biggest supporter. I’m not sure he has always understood my need to entertain but he puts up with it. Thanks to Katie Eastman I was asked by Ned Graham to “sing a few with the band”. Ned says my probation is about up so I guess I’m a keeper. Learning to follow Ned’s words and the words the writer of the song wrote has been a challenge sometimes but it keeps me on my toes. Not wanting to be left out during the instrumental numbers I took up the egg and Bodhrn. Learning the drum has been a challenge but I love it. (Thanks Dennis & Gaye) Maybe someday I’ll get around to learning the penny whistle. I’m also a great air dulcimer player and air guitar player. My hobbies outside to the band include: Winfield Community Theatre, garage sale shopping, working out at the gym, home decorating, crafting, and walking my dog Petey. Petey is a Jack Russell Terrier or terror as I call him. He is my constant companion when I’m home and a great audience when I’m practicing a new song. He doesn’t like the drum much though. P.S. Thanks Katie I’m having a ball!!! Due to the fact we like to eat and pay our bills, Mike and I officially moved to Evans Georgia in early 2004 following Mike’s career in the meat packing industry. Mike had been working in Georgia most of 2003. Then in May of 2005, we made another move. This time to Clermont, Florida, when Mike accepted a job offer to become plant manager for Central Beef. One of the reasons I look forward coming home to Winfield (Winfield will always be home) is because I get to sing with the group again. You guys are the greatest I would have never made it through that year with Mike in Georgia and me in Kansas without you. Thank you for your gift of music and for still considering me part of the band. The beat goes on!!!! PS You can write me at 11117 Oak Shore Laneor e-mail me at Leftwild@hotmail.com. |
