Meet the Band

New Blue Yonder is a group of talented, innovative young women playing an eclectic blend of musical styles from bluegrass to folk rock. The girls of New Blue Yonder have stayed busy the past four years playing music in a variety of different venues, and continue to actively pursue live performances while spending as much time in the studio as possible completeing their debut album.

New Blue Yonder is the brain-child of sisters, Crystal & Hilary Purvis. The Purvis' grew up singing gospel music with their family in churches in Missouri, Kansas, and Arkansas. Throughout their teens the sisters spent a lot of time developing their talents as classical pianists, violinist, and vocalist. Crystal and Hilary's grandfather was an active bluegrass musician, and they received an introduction to old time and bluegrass music from him. With time, the sisters developed an avid interest in American Folk music and Irish music. In 2000 the Purvis girls started a historical music band with two of their brothers known as "Echoes of the South". Though the band was short-lived, both Crystal and Hilary attribute their current love for performing to their early experiences playing historical music. In 2001 the sisters founded New Blue Yonder and began playing old-time, accoustic music, with Hilary on lead guitar and banjo, and Crystal on mandolin. The girls met Jenna Skyles through a series of amazing events. The first night that Jenna sat in with the band, the sisters knew that she was the bass player they'd been looking for. In 2004 the girls heard about an amazing fiddle player, and they gave Melody Church a call to see if she'd want to jam with them. It took about 5 minutes for the girls to figure out that Melody was a perfect match with the band, and with adding Melody, New Blue Yonder has become a complete and well-rounded four piece music ensemble.

With strong, earthy vocals and rock solid instrumentals, New Blue Yonder plays a wide variety of music styles that meld into one unique sound that is distinctly their own. Some have described New Blue Yonder's sound as The Dixie Chicks meet The Uppity Blues Women. Any show with these girls is guaranteed to contain plenty of old bluegrass, classic country, folk, acoustic rock, and the girls own original music, with a lot of laughter, fun, and good times thrown in for good measure.

New Blue Yonder is currently signed with Timber Winds Records, an independent label owned by Chad Sigafus. They hope to release their debut album in September of 2005
