The McLemore Family

The McLemore Family

(left to right): Sue, Brandon, Bob and Blake.

The McLemore Family of Colby, KS is becoming a well-known bluegrass band in the states of Kansas, Colorado, Nebraska and Oklahoma. Now in their fourth year of playing together as a family, they appreciate the values associated with traditional music, but also love the unique sound their acoustic instruments lend to more modern tunes.

Members of the band include Bob, (Dad) who plays guitar and shares his uncanny, spontaneous sense of humor on stage. Sue (Mom) plays a hard-driving banjo, in a style which many have said is "not like a girl"! Blake and Brandon (15 year-old twins) are, needless to say, single, and are the highlight of the foursome, attracting much attention with their cute grins and God-given talent.

This unique duo has been surrounded by bluegrass music and its special people all their lives, so it was no surprise when the boys to took up the bass and mandolin, respectively, at the age of 10. With youthful creativity and a natural ability to harmonize and pick, the twins devise intricate musical breaks and showy arrangements for the group. The two have performed at the Youth Showcase at the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, KS, and are two-time winners of the youth contest at the "Pickin' on the Plains" Festival in Colby, KS. All members of the band share lead and harmony vocals. Numerous folks have mentioned to the group that "it's obvious that you have fun", and it has also been said that the family has that special "magic" which allows them to connect with live audiences. They've recently released their first CD, "A Beautiful Life."

The group loves to pick and sing and appreciates the opportunity to share America's bluegrass with others, but above all else, they cherish the friends they've met along the way through their gift of music.
