| Early Tuesday afternoon (July 22, 2003), we received word of the death of a dear and special bluegrass supporter and wonderful person and friend, Carmelita Calhoon. She died suddenly and unexpectedly at her home that morning, after feeling fine and just returning from her usual morning walk. Carmelita and her husband, O. D. Calhoon, had just spent the majority of the previous weekend at Pickin' on the Plains, where she had also brought her mother to enjoy the shows.
Carmelita was one of those very special people who was so full of life. She was always positive and smiling and loved most every kind of music. She saw the good in everyone and did whatever she could to make others feel special. She was full of vitality, constantly giving of herself to help others, spending her Friday mornings at rhythm band singing and dancing with the nursing home residents just to get a smile.
Carmelita will be missed terribly by everyone who knew her. Our deepest sympathy and prayers go out to her husband, O.D. Calhoon, her mother, Lulu Grady, and her children, grandchildren, and the rest of her family.
( Sympathy cards may be sent to the Family of Carmelita Calhoon, 1680 West 5th Street, Colby, KS 67701)
