July 20-21-22, 2001 FESTIVALfrom Hooker, Oklahoma Our emcee (and cowboy poet)
Jack Trey Allen
Trey has been writing and reciting cowboy poetry for several years. In writing, he draws from experiences he gained while working as a day had on various outfits and trying to make a living in the rodeo arena. Stories that he has collected from various corners of a fairly small world lend to his writing endeavors as well. He enjoys learning and reciting the works of contemporary authors but takes special interest in the classics. He believes the classic poems are possibly the last link to a way of life that has been corrupted to the point of near extinction by modern technology and commercialism. Not that the thinks the American Cowboy is a dying breed he's been quoted as saying "There to many or 'em still goin' 'round with the forked end down." He no longer craws cowpuncher wages as he feels that his family deserves more than three meals a week. He keeps his hands in the horse industry by raising and breaking colts. Trey lives near Hooker, OK with his lovely wife Pam and five wonderful kids, Matt, Tiffany, Shandee, Lara and Tera.
