hanami - cherry blossom viewing (literally hana=flower mi=see)
This is definitely not what the words "Newark, New Jersey" bring to mind for the average American. Yet, every spring, Branch Brook Park in Newark has one of the best displays of cherry blossoms in the entire country.
sakura is the Japanese word for cherry blossoms.
Fortunately, I had my bicycle with me, allowing me to easily take a two-mile ride and see lots of the blossoms, not just those near the roadway.
I also took a couple of short trips to Lyndhurst.
