View toward the east

Looking East
This is a famous view, but it's not often seen from this perspective. At the very top of the picture, the car you see is on Fifth Avenue. The garden between the French Building on the left) and the British Empire (on the right) is called the Channel Garden. Why not? The English Channel does separate England from France!

At the bottom of the picture, those circles are the umbrellas over the tables at the outdoor restaurant that is open during the warm season. In the winter, the restaurant retracts to a semi-circle around this area, which then becomes the often-photographed skating rink at Rockefeller Center. If you look carefully, you'll see the flags of all nations of the world surrounding this restaurant/skating rink. Too close to be seen in this photo is the fountain, next to which the famous Christmas tree is erected each year. During our years in this office, I'd always make a visit during Christmas vacation so I could look down at the enormous tree. Unfortunately, I don't think I ever brought a camera on one of those occasions.
