I doubt that he knows this, but I have TWO relatives named after this Scout. Here's how it happened:
When I was twelve years old, my youngest brother was born. Since he needed a name, and since the family was somewhat democratic, we all got to put a name (or was it two) in a hat. Many of my friends were named Don and that would have been a poor choice for a name for my brother. I had just been over to Alan Wade's house, so that was a name I contributed to the hat. The first name drawn was Eric, so that's my brother's first name. His middle name, though, was Alan, the second name drawn. Therefore, it can honestly be said that Eric ALAN Shorock was named for one of my fellow Scouts: Alan Wade.
When my own son was born, Nora and I were faced with the choice of a name. Knowing (from other family experiences) that you NEVER want to give someone the name of a living relative (much too confusing), I thought it would still be nice to name my son for my two brothers. Since Paul and Eric were ruled out, I went for their two middle names. It was Paul THOMAS Shorock and Eric ALAN Shorock, so my son's name was Thomas Alan Shorock. Tom's middle name, thus, was indirectly derived from Alan Wade's name.
