Pricing

For our first years of doing web design, we have stuck to the following policies:
  1. We never specified a price.
  2. We never sent a bill.
  3. Payments could be sent to Don or Tom Shorock.
A review of our finances recently showed that we were actually losing money with our web design work. Now that I've retired from my day job, I'd rather show a profit or, at least, break even. We found that we were hosting sites for defunct businesses, incurring expenses in doing so. We also found people who would be glad to pay but needed a reminder. In some cases, Tom & I each thought the other was receiving payments from a particular account. Therefore, our new policy is:
  1. We will not specify a price, but will give some suggestions as to an appropriate amount.
  2. You can name the price and frequency of payments and we will now send reminders.
  3. All payments should be sent to:
    Don Shorock
    P O Box 501
    Great Bend, KS 67530-0501
and Don will reimburse Tom for his expenses.

Initial payments

Since we never want to think we overcharged you, we would rather build the site first, let you look at it and then let you decide what you think it's worth and what you can afford. We've received payments ranging from $25 to $1000 and most have been around $300 for designing the initial site, but it takes nothing but my time to do it and I enjoy doing it.

Regular payments

While we own the servers, we need to pay a server farm to host our machines and they charge us according to traffic. If yours has big files and lots of traffic, something like $15/month would be appropriate. If yours is a small site without a lot of traffic, $5/month would be more appropriate. If yours is a "worthwhile cause" we'll be glad to settle for less. In addition to the server costs, it costs a dollar or two each month to keep your domain registered. Don't worry about this if you are using one of our generic domains. It would also be appropriate to add a bit more if you're getting e-mail through our servers.

Occasional payments

Using dynamic content, we try to provide you with a method for maintaining current information on your site. Sometimes, though, some of the more static content changes. That's much like doing the initial site, so when you've had some other updating of your site, an additional payment would be appropriate.
You can now use PayPal to pay us for our services and you can register with PayPal to receive payments from your customers:
