Kansas Heart from Wichita makes their Pickin' on the Plains debut this year. Leaning more toward the traditional side, they boast a couple of extremely talented musicians and vocalists who each bring a unique asset to the group.

Mike Theobold is an excellent banjo player with nearly 40 years of musical prowess under his belt. With his father, he introduced bluegrass music to this part of the country, forming Kansas' very first bluegrass band.

Mike's wife Vickie Lynn has become a truly incredible mandolin player in just a few short years. Her tasteful picking really dresses up the band's sound and distinguishes her as one of the best mandolin players around. They call her their “secret weapon”!

Mark Bennett is becoming legendary in jam sessions, knowing all the words to nearly every bluegrass song ever written. He plays guitar and bass, and sings both lead and harmony. His endless repertoire makes him a welcome addition wherever bluegrass folks gather.

Robbie Melton has what every outstanding bluegrass guitar player needs — punch, taste and speed. He's an all-around musician; an award-winning guitar player and songwriter. His credits include being a finalist in the Marlboro Showdown Talent Contest, a winner in the IBMA Northeast Regional band contest, and a member of the Songwriters Association of America. He's authored an array of beautiful tunes, which landed him appearances in Nashville's exclusive Bluebird Café and Courtyard Café.

Rick Morton, the newest addition to Kansas Heart, is a fiddler and a half from Tulsa. A long time bluegrasser, and winner of the 1986 Tulsa Chili Bluegrass Fiddle Championship, Rick has played with Ronnie Dunn of Brooks and Dunn, and owns a double platinum album award for his work with the Tractors. While touring with the Tractors and dunn, his performances included playing the Grand Ol' Opry in Nashville, Tennessee.

The group blends together to make one of the smoothest bluegrass sounds around. They work diligently to add all the details and put the pieces in just the right place — which sets them apart from most other bluegrass bands. They know how to do it right.
