The Fort Lee Film Commission will sponsor a February 6, 2006 program at Fort Lee High School on Oscar Micheaux. Micheaux shot numerous films in Fort Lee from 1920's "Symbol of the Unconquered" through his final film "The Betrayal" in 1948. The Film Commission symposium on Micheaux will be lead by Micheaux scholar and film historian Pearl Bowser. Joining Pearl Bowser on the panel will be Jeanette Curtis-Rideau of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women and Film Commission Executive Director Tom Meyers. Clips from Micheaux films will be screened during the program for students at the Fort Lee High School auditorium / theater.

The Fort Lee Film Commission of Fort Lee New Jersey will hold a restrospective of Micheaux's "symbol of the unconquered" on February 10,2004. This event, at the Fort Lee High School for the student body, is a salute to Micheaux, an important filmmaker who shot many of his films in fort lee (including "Symbol Of The Unconqueed") . Scholar Pearl Bowser and the Newark Museum's Cleatrice Johnson will lead a panel in discussion of Micheaux and his work in Fort Lee. This event is part of a series of events celebrating Fort Lee's centennial year of 2004.

During the 6th annual Festival, 15 silent films, both features and shorts, will be shown. All will be accompanied by live organ or orchestra accompaniment.
