Oscar's uncle, Andrew Jackson Micheaux, homesteaded in the Great Bend area in the 1880's. Andrew Micheaux owned over 700 acres of ground in the Great Bend area, and in his lifetime he was often referred to as "the richest Negro in Kansas." "Uncle Andrew" bought stock in one or more of Oscar's film companies.

Austin Wheatley, the son of Janice Cotton, played football for The New Orleans Saints, The Dallas Cowboys and The Oakland Raiders.

Property originally owned by AJ Michaux remains in the family--owned by Janice Cotton, Patricia Finch and Francine Harris--great-granddaughters of Lillie Michaux.
