Even those locals who might have missed the pre-event publicity knew that something big was happening when so many parking places were full in downtown Great Bend on a Saturday morning.

Ben Brungardt wore many hats. He was responsible for organizing the “Other Oscars” event at the Golden Belt Country Club.
He spent much of the weekend as chauffer for the speakers.
In this glimpse, he's arranging the lineup of vehicles in the procession from the Crest to the cemetery.
On Friday evening, some family members got an unscheduled chance to visit with James McDaniel.
